Ericsson Vodafone test 5G networks

Competition in delivering 5G network services in the UK is getting heated up. This time the collaboration between Vodafone and Ericsson has revealed the latest developments from their test run.

Vodafone and Ericsson also took research from King College London to test the installation of a self-contained 5G network. They claim that this is the first time in the UK the 5G network works independently and apart from existing 4G technology.Developers use several technologies including Massive MIMO (Multiple Input and Multiple Output) that use multiple antennas to transmit and receive data more efficiently. That's not the only technology used. The project also incorporates different spectrum bands of smartphones to increase data capacity and speed.

Quoted TechRadar page, Wednesday (20/12), by combining four spectrum bands, the smartphone can reach data rates of more than 500 megabits per second (Mbps).

This technology becomes very important in supporting video applications that suck data very quickly. Field trials are used to show how 5G services will benefit industry and society in the future. Especially this technology is very supportive of IoT operation from a distance.

Head of Vodafone UK network service, Kye Prigg said that his team is happy to be the first provider to test 5G network directly. But still, according to Prigg, the construction of this network will take no time.

The trials were conducted using prototype devices, based on 5G technology. Ericsson itself tested a 5G network using a 3.5GHz spectrum band
