Termite pest attacks are commonly found and damage to plantation crops and which have wood-based furniture. Soil termites are found on dry land and are not found in wetlands such as rice fields and land that is often flooded.

Termite pest control with technical culture

  • Cultivate the land prior to planting, ie by plowing the ground or with a hoe. Cultivate the land other than to soothe the soil can also destroy the termite nest in the soil. Thus termites will come out and are easily found and eaten by natural predators such as ants, chickens, or birds.
  • Cleans the land from previous crop residues and the remaining wood roots in the soil. Remnants of woody plants and roots are the food sources favored by termites, wiping off the land of these materials to reduce and inhibit the proliferation of termites.
  • Crop rotation to break the termite pest's life cycle. Planting one type of plant continuously makes the plant vulnerable to termite pest attack.

Termite pest control naturally

Several fungi / entomopathogenic fungi have been widely developed to control termite pests in plants. The types of mushrooms include; Beauveria bassiana, Aspergillus sp., Metarhizium anisopliae, Fusarium sp, and Myrothesium sp. How the application is done by spraying. This method is effective enough to eradicate termite pests, because one termites are dead infected with the fungus so other termites will die. Why? Termites are insects that have cannibal properties, if any termites are dead it will be eaten by other termites. Thus the termites will get infected with fungus and die.

Termite pest control with vegetable pesticides

Some plant extracts are known to be able to control termite pests, although not very effective because of its use should be done repeatedly. But this method is quite helpful to reduce termite pests without polluting and damaging the environment. Plants that can be used as a vegetable pesticide for termite pests are papaya and mimba leaves. Papaya leaf extract combined with mimba leaf extract is leached at the base of the plant stem or sprayed on the affected plant.
