Supermoon is a natural event that rarely appears in one year. it is estimated that supermoon only appears 3 to 5 times a year. the supermoon event will occur on January 2.2018 and January 31, 2018. Supermoon occurs when the moon is in the position of its closest orbit to the earth. Because of the elliptical lunar orbit, one side (apogee) is about 30,000 miles (50,000 km) farther from Earth than the other side (perigee). Thus, the moon will look 14 percent bigger and 30 percent brighter.
